Kuldhara - India's Very Own Ghost Town

NDTV scrolls, "A crew of 13 archeologists directed under Ayappan Nair were missing in the region of Rajasthan" in television in the Reception lobby.

It’s a bright cold Sunday, and the clocks were striking thirteen. The vibrations are felt in the air, Police siren blow the minds. They sight a number plate KL 50 D 2309 entering the gate at a moderate speed, Mercedes arrived in front of the Kozhikode Crime Branch. At an instance, the door opens, confronting the heavy wind. The black heel is out opening the door. The air surrenders to the perfect portrait picture of a beautiful lady with iconic eyes wearing a red shirt, black trousers with a gun holster. She made a courageous and bold walk to her cabin. Here’s the Additional Director General of Police, CB, CID “Vistara Mudugar”. She’s from a tribal village named Attapadi of Palakkad district.

Howling gales rushed into the cabin and showed up a startling mysterious and unsolved case which was pending for decades. The cover page of the file flipped to a great wind and mentioned, A little over 18km to the west of Jaisalmer with coordinates 26.81°N 70.80°E. Its elevation is 266 m (873ft) and the time zone is UTC+5:30 (IST). An Abandoned village named,

Vistara starts reading the file of her next mysterious and highly complicated case. It is mentioned that, An epoch that Kuldhara is an abandoned village in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. Established around the 13th Century, it was once a prosperous village inhabited by Pailwal Brahmins. It was deserted by the early 19th century for unknown reasons, possibly because of the dwindling water supply. The Pailwals were harassed by the diwan and were paying huge taxes. Overcome by remorse and in desperation, the entire community left their homes and hearths behind, cursing the king and escaped in the dead of the night. (A 2017 study suggests that Kuldhara and other neighbouring villages were evacuated because of an earthquake.)

Many stories floated around. Some say the Chudalis or ghosts wander around in the night, haunting the place. Others say that nobody lived here anymore as mysterious deaths have occurred. The muteness was not comforting. Some say they came from Pali in Jodhpur, some say they went back to Pali, but their souls now rest in Kuldhara. It is said that people who have tried to stay there at night have been chased away by the strange paranormal phenomenon. As the mass excavation took place on the day of Raksha-Bandhan, the Pailwali community observes the festival as a black day. Kuldhara is now maintained by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI).

Recent Missing mysteries of the Icons;

  • A few years back, The founder of the Indian Paranormal Society, Gaurav Tiwari had appointed a person to handle the case. Later, after some days, Tiwari died at his place in New Delhi, but there’s no trace of his reason for his death. Tiwari claimed that the real aim of his Society’s trips was to dismantle the myths surrounding the village and encourage more people to visit it-even though he believed not everything that happened in Kuldhara has a rational explanation.
  • A few days back,A team of 13 archeologists decided to spend a night and wanted to know the concrete truth of the place headed by the famous archeologist Ayyapan Nair from Kerala. It was told that they started examining and after they had gone to the temple; they had been missing. Their bodies were also not found.

She raised some doubts in her mind,

How can they fade away in one night without a trace? What to do with the investigation, as it happened in the late 18th or 19th century?

But on the point, Kerala lost the most desirable person, the government carried on a very serious investigation and close the case. Many investigators raised their hands in this case. This time there is a collaboration between Kerala and Rajasthan governments. The Kerala government decided to investigate by the CID and handled it to a most powerful investigator. Rajasthan government has also been sending the most desirable person from Jaisalmer Crime Branch, Mr. Arjun Singh. Both the teams were a trio, respectively.

The next day, Vistara and her team of three members landed at Jodhpur Airport. As Arjun made research on her, he was eagerly waiting at the Airport. There he saw Vistara and fell for her. In a fraction of seconds, he became a Romeo from the CID officer. They shook their hands and got up to the car and started to Kuldhara. Near to Kuldhara, a constant drizzle follows on the road as it was magical to feel the rush of monsoons in the deserts. An Oasis is almost found everywhere. Dark low-hanging clouds pregnant with rain took over the sky. The parched desert was willing to embrace the downpour. The desert looks bewitching, but they are on an eerie trail. They have taken a detour and reached Kuldhara.

They can notice the scant presence of human existence. The vegetation is minimal - the meek straying goats have probably feasted on the last bits. The climate is cool as they reach the ruined gates of the town at 6.00 pm. They find the vast stretch of ramshackle houses, crumbling blocks of ancient brick walls, narrow by lanes, intact walls, ruined town squares, and underground structures set amid the parched earth reveals a landscape both sublime and surreal.

Vistara felt a sudden chill sweep over her. She thinks that’s the cool evening breeze of the desert. Arjun senses nothing about the place, but he seems to flutter in the fragrance of Vistara. They found an enormous house to stay in and made all the arrangements. That night has passed.

The next morning, Vistara casually wants to walk the entire village. Arjun interrupts in between and both go for a walk. They find the Mahisasura Mardini temple in the center of the village, which is very attractive but has an eerie feeling.

Arjun used this situation for flirting with Vistara. Arjun is a fair, good looking and handsome boy. As Vistara is in serious observation of the village, she didn’t notice Arjun much. They both are going to every house in the village, Vistara is feeling something unusual. When they get into the Mahisasura Mardini temple, the wind at the tremendous speed blew her strongly. Arjun caught Vistara falling. That touch is now felt by Vistara.

After the dawn, they can feel disembodied whispers, screams, noises in the dark hours. A member from the Vistara team has gone outside for using the washroom in nature. He feels the air speaking. While he is pissing, he has been thrown away unzipped by an unknown person. The following morning that person from the Vistara team is missing. There were no traces of him.

Vistara now became more alert. They had made a plan on the blueprint of the village. They have fixed infrared and full spectrum cameras and CCTVs in every place. The EMF meters are carried along with them every time. They also kept EVP meters, thermal images, motion sensors, REM pods, and Static detectors. They monitored a lot of such unexplained Electro-Magnetic Fields [EMFs] that responded to the communication; they captured disembodied voices, found variations in temperature and static charges.

Arjun is now frightening like never before.

But he only concentrated on a top level flirting with Vistara. One fine day Arjun made Kuldhara a beautiful place with lighting and making the flowers fall on her. He proposed Vistara. He expressed the stunning words, “You look like an ocean in the desert, the desert after my meal, the greenery between the yellow sand and the blue sky, let your footprints be placed on my sand of love”. She had not yet confirmed anything.

As the investigation goes on, they found the blinking of the detectors and found thermal images of a person. But there is nothing but wind in the CCTVs. Another person from the team of Arjun found the handprints on their cars at one night. He felt someone touching his shoulder from behind. He found no one. He was also been missing by the next morning.

Vistara took it as a challenge and started a secret investigation and read the books of Mughals and the secrets of Jaisalmer Fort. Finally, she got to know the history of Kings and Deewans in the 18th and 19th centuries. No other person knows about her secret investigation. She found some liquid samples near the temple which is odorless like water. She added some content in a test tube and given for testing.

After the complete investigation, she asked Arjun to meet her at a nearby lake at night. Quiet breeze got for some time. Arjun seems disconcerted with the cool breeze. Breaking the silence, Vistara made a marriage proposal to Arjun. Arjun is on cloud nine and he has no words to speak. That made his hair straightened. Arjun’s heartbeat is rising faster and faster as the stunning face of Vistara came very close, trapped each other’s eyes, listening to her perishable breath, the arms wrapped their bodies, with the skip of a beat they had a deep kiss which has thrown into a trance.

They had a beautiful talk holding their hands. Of a sudden, Vistara urged him to marry the next day at 6 pm. Arjun is quite confused and at last, agreed upon her decision. She convinced him to marry at Mahisasura Mardini Temple.

The day started with lots of dreams for both the love birds. Vistara looks so beautiful in White Kerala sare and Arjun Singh wore a suit. Exactly at 6 pm Arjun knot the thread to Vistara. The knotted yellow thread is looking bright. Eventually, the EMF detector started blinking and made a break. The K-2 meter has shown the temperature reduction from 35° C to 14° C. The sky has become dark with constant thunders.

Arjun is turning blue, yelling, and became stronger and wild. The nearby compact houses are destructing themselves. The bells in the temple were beating heavily. He started throwing the persons away. Vistara stood strong and stared at him. Vistara asks, “why you have been doing this Salim Singh Mehta?”

Then the spirit in Arjun’s body confused about her question. He started speaking in a bold and unpleasant voice, “I’m a cursed demon. I can only attain the bodies of my clan. So Arjun was suspected”. Vistara wildly asks, “What you have done to all the archeologists?”

“Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, in the deserts of Rajasthan, there was a town which despite being located in what could be called a barren wasteland, was a symbol of wealth and prosperity. The town was beautifully built with lots of greenery around it which almost made it look like an Oasis. People were honest and worked hard towards the wellbeing of society. This place is called Kuldhara. Men of Kuldhara used to wear Mughal style turbans and jamas (tunic-like garments) with Kamarband (a waist belt). They spotted a beard, wore a necklace, and carried a Khanjar (dagger). The women wore tunics or lehengas and some of them wore necklaces. I am the prime minister(deewan) of Jaisalmer and this place comes under my rule. I used to levy huge taxes on them as they were very wealthy people.

One day I went on a check to Kuldhara. My eyes fell on a beautiful girl and I decided to marry her. Later it was known that she was the daughter of the village chief. As the complete village was against me they didn’t agree to marry the girl. I used to visit Kuldhara daily only to see the girl. I can’t control my lust for many days. I gave the warning to handover the girl in two days. Otherwise, their taxes would be increased to the high. They were frightened, but as a team they were strong. They had married that girl to a man in their caste in the Mahisasura Mardini temple. I couldn’t control my anger and thought of starting a war and went back to Jaisalmer and returned Kuldhara with the arms but there was no piece found on the land”, says the spirit.

In between Vistara yells at the spirit, “You wanker and bloody bugger”. In the meantime, Salim Singh holds Vistara’s neck and lifted her with anger. Vistara confronted about the Hydrofluoric acid at a very hard rate. Arjun’s body is growing big and turns black with red eyes. She also asked, “Why the rains come as on your wish?”

Salim Singh hurt her more. He has thrown her to the wall. She is bruised in many places. The face covered with blood.

The spirit says confidentially, “There was a person under my rule who is a medical man. I compelled to make a highly strongest acid that makes people disappear. I don’t even know that liquid was called some ‘Hudirosorfy acid’. As I listened that Ashoka used the artificial cloud formation for getting rains in drought places. With the help of the scientific persons in the kingdom, we made an artificial cloud formation.”

Vistara disturbs his words and says, “then you have mixed Hydrofluoric acid in the mixture of substances of the cloud formation which made every person melt and die and killed 83 villages around with Kuldhara.”

The spirit was now becoming more anger of Vistara’s words and started throwing them away. Salim Singh is trying to kill Vistara. He is constantly beating Vistara on her Jaws. She cannot hurt the body of Arjun. The other investigators were coming in the middle to stop him and are killed brutally by biting and by taking out the heart by his hands. Now Vistara can’t see all of them die because of Arjun. She ran on a hard to the top of the building opposite to the temple. With a heavy jump and a heavy cry from the deep heart, she has thrown the Hydrofluoric acid [HF(aq)] on Arjun’s body as she had imparted the acid for self-defense from the crime branch. The sky now became clear with the death of Arjun. His body melted like the tears of her. She doesn’t even have the Arjun’s body to catch and cry for the last time.

While Vistara was on the secret investigation, she found that the Arjun’s full name was Arjun Singh Mehta and the cursed deewan Salim Singh was also from the Mehta family. And found a shocking thing that the person appointed by the Indian Paranormal Society for many years was also Arjun. Doubted Arjun, but she wants Arjun out of it and to close the case. So she asked to marry. And she noticed that the missing of the persons was happening only after 6 pm. So she asked to marry at 6 O’clock

The chemicals used for cloud seeding include silver iodine, potassium iodide, and dry ice (solid carbon dioxide). Liquid propane, which expands into a gas, has also been used. This can produce ice Crystal’s at higher temperatures. Hydrofluoric acid is produced by the treatment of the mineral fluorite (CaF²) with concentrated Sulfuric Acid (H²SO⁴)at 265° C, it can melt the skeleton too. The splendid thing to know is Arjun sacrificed his life for his beloved one. He didn’t allow to attain Salim Singh when Vistara is beside and he actually helped to close the case. But a girl must be courageous to become a widow for life after a few minutes of marriage.

Vistara and two other persons walking to the gate to leave Kuldhara and close the case. The tears have dried up. Walking to the gate, while she’s keeping her leg outside, her eyes became red and her body shook for a second and had a terrific smile on her face.

The devil has entered Vistara’s body as now, she is

"VISTARA SINGH MEHTA".

  7. The story was good . But a small suggestion is that you better replace the job of Arjun's and visthara like a reporters ,etc. Cause , I think , the cid officers don't believe that the souls exist .Or you better mention someone secret person who's aimed to murder from years instead of Salim singh's soul.Apart from that ,you done a great job .

  28. As an author your narration is superb and I really appreciate you for your wonderful writings.

I can understand the pain in your efforts of writing a story but please try to minimize the length of the stories.

You should use precise words rather than basic words such as good and bad in your writing.

You should also use cautious language when expressing negative ideas.

Good luck for the upcoming stories, keep rocking !!!

  32. Here comes the writer of the story. On the celebration of 1000+ views for Kuldhara want to share some interesting things about the story.
As many of you were asking about the news of the sequel of Kuldhara. Definately there will be a chapter 2, if you all are willing to, but it may take time.
Everyone were very fortunate of reading such a climax, thanking all from the bottom of my heart.
The story of Kuldhara was inspired from the true events that are known to be myths.
The time to know my favorite lines in the story, "the greenery between the yellow desert and the blue sky. This means, the color of the desert is yellow and the color of the sky is blue, if we mix the yellow and the blue color, it gives green. That's the greenery which is compared to love.
Once again thank you all for supporting.
